Halloween is here!

Happy Halloween! This is one of my favorite holidays because it's so different from the rest of them and so exciting. This is one of the world's oldest Holidays. Halloween is shortened for All Hallow's Eve but it was originally an Ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. They believed the world of the living and the dead overlapped, they believed the dead would damage crops and cause sickness. The festival would sometimes involve bonfires because it attracted insects to the area which caused bats to come to the area as well. Costumes were worn to mimic the evil spirits. Trick or treating in those days meant going from door to door the day after Samhain asking for food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2nd) which was called "souling." What's so cool about this day aside from the history is that so many people celebrate it in so many different ways, you may be partying or going trick or treating but other people see this as a day to talk to their dead loved ones. Today is also New Year's day for the Wiccans, the wall between the earth and the underworld is thin at this time of year. On the night of Samhain, the wall opens. When you know the history of Halloween, I think it makes the day a lot more scarier and exciting, especially when you know that there are some people who are going to be doing a lot of weird things tonight. Have an awesome day everyone! :)
